Los Angeles was initially seen as a strong contender for hosting the 1976 Olympics, after having previously hosted the games in 1932. However, after earning only 17 votes in the first round, Los Angeles was eliminated from contention. Although their bid ultimately failed in 1976, the city would go on to bid once again for the 1980 games before hosting the wildly successful 1984 Olympics.
